HC Catering is a family oriented business which has been operating in Nillumbik for over 30 years, catering for functions big and small and supporting community initiatives and local students. Richard's philosophy is that if you like people and like to smile, he can teach you the rest! If you are interested in a career in Hospitality, this is an ideal opportunity to learn about all aspects of the catering industry.

This placement is suitable for students at any level of experience, studying either VET Hospitality or Kitchen Operations or similar.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Depending on focus of study, students will begin with basic tasks including;
• Care and use of kitchen equipment
• Safe food handling and storage
• Basic food preparation
• Customer service skills

Student will progress to more advanced tasks such as portioning and other food pre-preparation as their skills develop.

Finally, students will advance to full cooking methods, and learning how to make a range of meals, including sauces, learning the full process from beginning to end. Students may also have the opportunity to learn basic (non-alcoholic) drink preparation, and other events related skills depending upon their skill progression and area of interest.

Student Requirements

A genuine interest in Hospitality and a smile is what you need, Richard can teach you the rest! This placement is suitable for students studying a Certificate in Hospitality, Kitchen Operations, Cookery, Events or a related field.

HC Catering is particularly interested in students who would like to develop their cooking skills, and they are looking to develop their next apprentice in the kitchen.

It is a requirement all staff to be vaccinated against Covid 19.

Dress Requirements

Students should wear proper chef's shoes, or at the very least sturdy closed toe shoes suitable for a kitchen environment.
Students should wear plain black long pants and a white shirt (long or short sleeve).

Special Transport Requirements

Travel form will be required as students may be required to travel to different function locations.
Although based in Hurstbridge, HC Catering caters events throughout Nillumbik Shire and beyond, including Eltham Reception Centre, The Slovenian Club and more.
