The Maryvale Private Hospital (MPH) work experience placement provides students with learning opportunities under the guidance of experienced and passionate professionals. The hospital wide placement will provide students with insight into the broad working environment operations that a healthcare setting has to offer & includes rotations in administration, admissions, consulting, catering, stores, clerical, ward - medical & surgical (shadowing a nurse & physiotherapist), all the way through to theatre with our technicians. Students will have the chance to experience a range of hands on practical & observational tasks in their exploration of the wide range of services available to meet the growing demands on quality healthcare in Gippsland. Skills You Might Learn

Students undertaking the placement would typically acquire the following skills: knowledge of the industry, strong communication & interpersonal skills, working professionally as part of a team & using basic working techniques in each area, with equipment safety & awareness a major focus. Workplace communication is observed in real life scenarios & students will assist with the maintenance & cleaning practises in each area.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will support the team during each rotation with a range of duties which may include: food preparation, meal delivery & dietary monitoring, medical record filing & retrieval, compiling admission packs, concierge assistance, scanning & support to the clinic nurse, shadowing a theatre technician, day procedure unit (DPU), ward nurse & physiotherapist, stock/inventory control, goods in & goods out, picking & sorting, clerical duties – photocopying, care pack preparation & escorting a patient to the ward. Tasks will be around assisting other employees in their roles & the student will be expected to be an active participant in all workplace practices. They will work as part of a team while under regular supervision with safety and confidentiality of utmost importance.

Student Requirements

Students should have a genuine interest in the healthcare sector & a willingness to learn.

Dress Requirements

Students will be required to maintain professional appearance, short sleeves & closed in footwear.

Special Transport Requirements

Student to arrange own transport to & from MPH each day.
