Typical Tasks & Duties

As a Automotive Sales Trades Assistant - Farm Machinery, the student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified staff assisting in the interpretation and supply of spare parts for farm machinery including tractors, sprayers, slashers, mulchers, nut equipment, construction machinery, utility vehicles and mowers.

You will work with the team who provide exceptional customer service and parts support to O'Connor's customers and the service department. You will learn to source and identify parts using electronic catalogues, manuals and data bases. You will also develop skills to allow you to promote and sell machinery parts and related products.

As an parts interpretation student you will work alongside qualified employees who have benefited from specialist CASE IH parts training and ongoing support and career guidance.

Task and duties may include but not be limited to the following;
• Work effectively with others in the workplace.
• Follow safe working practices in the workplace.
• Communicate effectively in the workplace.
• Respond to customer needs and enquiries in the workplace.
• Search data bases.
• Take and enter orders and quotes.
• Assisting with freight inwards and outwards
• Maintain a safe and tidy work area.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Automotive Sales Trades Assistant - Farm Machinery with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future WE placement.

Whilst students are attending a placement they are expected to:
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Only use your personal mobile device on breaks.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Complete the safety induction modules.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Participate in business activities as required.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through school or if completing a VET subject.
• Take their Logbook to their work placement every day and fill it in each day.

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present in the following work attire;
• Comfortable work boots with steel capping.
• Workwear appropriate for the workplace including work pants and work shirt (long or short sleeve).
• Minimal jewellery and long hair tied back for safety purposes.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
