Are you interested in learning more about Civil Infrastructure? Citywide is open to hosting passionate students interested in the industry.
Placements are available working outdoors as part of Citywide’s Civil Infrastructure services and are 5 days long which can be extended if both parties agree. Students do not need to be studying a related VET certificate; however, those studying Civil Construction/Infrastructure will be preferred. This placement could align with your Certificate II in Civil Construction via the following Units of Competency:
RIICCM201E Carry out measurements and calculations
RIISAM203E Use hand and power tools
RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
For students with the right attitude and skills, these placements have the possibility of leading to full-time apprenticeships, paid work, and supported career pathways through Citywide. Placements are viewed as a trial. A meet and greet before the placement is required.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Students undertaking a Civil Infrastructure placement with Citywide can expect to do the following:
- pre-starts & equipment checking to ensure everything's ready for work
- working with team members on various tasks and assisting team members with basic work on-site
- exposure to line marking, drainage works, traffic management, sign installation & footpath reinstatements (repairs). Some involvement in light manual work with the assigned team member they’re working with.
There are no tasks allocated that require licences or permits for any placement students in this role.
Student Requirements
Minimum requirement to be completing year 10 or above.
Students need to be able to make their own way for a 6:30 am start to the North Melbourne depot. An alternative start time can be negotiated prior to the placement if travel time is high. Students will need a signed Travel and Accommodation form in case they are required to travel off-site.
Students should have an interest in working in Civil Infrastructure and need to have completed the relevant Safe@Work unit prior to placement (if they are not doing a relevant VET) as well as the Citywide Online Induction program.
They should also be enthusiastic, willing to learn, punctual, have appropriate presentation, and a polite manner.
Dress Requirements
Students should wear appropriate PPE equipment. Students will need their own boots, work pants/overalls. Top/jumper, gloves and safety glasses will be provided if the student doesn’t have their own.
