The Room Hair and Design is a family owned and operated hair and beauty business. Owner Verity is very passionate about the health and care of hair and prides herself on the very best of customer service. This workplace learning place will introduce students to a broad range of hair treatments, haircuts, styling and application and care of salon colours. Students will also learn the basics of the therapeutic practices involved in professional hair shampooing and conditioning to allow clients to relax and unwind. Based in Ararat's busy main street, The Room Hair and Design has an opportunity for a student who is interested in the vocation of Salon Assistant to build on their skills and apply course theory to practical placement in a vibrant and creative industry. Students may have the opportunity to attain a broad range of skills while on placement. These will include valuable general employability skills such as:

- Liaising and working with colleagues, bosses, customers/clients, and suppliers.

- Working in real-life scenarios and environments.
- Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation and business.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will assist trained staff in performing duties, students receiving high level supervision. Students will spend a considerable amount of time observing professionals and may undertake the following:
- All aspects of customer service, observing and taking part in treatments dependent on level of competency.
- Greet and seat clients.
- Prepare clients for salon services.
- Offer clients tea/coffee and converse in a friendly, customer service manner.
- General cleaning, sweeping and set up and pack away tasks.
- Prepare equipment and products.
- Prepare treatments and apply skills of shampooing and conditioning hair.
- Learn to answer phone and book appointments

Student Requirements

Students are encouraged to consider a WE placement to develop skills learned from their school subject. The following requirements must be met;
- Students are required to have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) modules- General module and any applicable industry OH&S modules.
- Students must maintain a diary or logbook and/or complete work experience assignment and other tasks that have been set by the school.
- Students must adhere to strict Privacy and Confidentiality policy and procedures.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully and competently.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work as a productive team member.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on offsite meal breaks.

Dress Requirements

Dress requirements will be discussed with the successful student prior to commencement.

The student will be required to arrange their own transport; if transport is presenting a problem, please contact CGLLEN to discuss available options and support that can be provided. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Work Experience Travel and Accommodation Form.
