An opportunity exists for a student interested in undertaking their SWL placement at Mitre 10 in Ararat in Retail and Timber and Trade Customer Service. Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will assist trained staff in performing duties, students receiving high level supervision. Duties may include but not limited to customer service roles in the various sections of the store. Students will learn about stock replenishment, warehousing and product delivery systems and displays, as well as, assisting customers to locate items.
Students will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Assisting Mitre 10 trained staff with related Timber and Trade Customer Service tasks as instructed by trained staff.
- Engaging with customers as advised by Mitre 10 trained staff.
- Completing all tasks as assigned by Mitre 10 trained staff.

Student Requirements

Students are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET course in Construction, Retail, Warehousing and Logistics, and/or Business Administration. The following requirements must be met;
- Students must have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) module in the relevant VET course.
- Students are required to have a keen interest in Timber and Trade sales, sorting and locating systems.
- Take their Workplace Learning Record and/or have course assessment tasks to complete at work placement every day.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work with a team. This includes notifying the workplace supervisor and the careers teacher of any planned or unplanned absences.
- Students must be completing a related subject or have displayed an interest in the area Retail for Timber and Trade.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.

Dress Requirements

Please discuss uniform requirements with the employer at the preplacement interview. Students will be expected to wear neat casual dress appropriate for the workplace, sturdy closed in toe and heal shoes are essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied by the employer for tasks involving cleaning and maintenance activities.

Special Transport Requirements

The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
