If so, a placement at Sugarloaf Produce could be for you! Sugarloaf Produce is a small organic farm located in Strathewen at the base of Mt. Sugarloaf and the Kinglake Ranges. The farm specialises in growing swiss brown mushrooms, seasonal vegetables, fruit, and eggs without the use of synthetic chemicals. The farm is also home to a variety of animals including cattle, sheep, goats, and chickens. This placement offers a unique opportunity for senior students to gain on farm experience in animal husbandry, propagation, plant cultivation, weed control and more. Skills You Might Learn

Students will attain relevant elements from Cert II in Agriculture, Horticulture, Permaculture or Conservation & Ecosystem Management units of competency in accordance with their course of study. Students will also increase their industry specific knowledge.

In addition to industry specific skills, transferable skills that students may develop include;
* Communication
* Teamwork
* Time management

Typical Tasks & Duties

Tasks can be catered to align with various VET studies and assist students to expand their required skills and meet their area of interest. This includes qualifications in Horticulture, Agriculture, Permaculture, Conservation or related areas.
Tasks may include some or all of the following;
* Weeding
* Planting
* Propagation
* Harvesting
* Site preparation
* Animal husbandry
and other tasks typical of a small to medium scale farm with a market presence.

Dress Requirements

Special Transport Requirements

Workplace is not close to public transport and the student will need to organise their own transport to and from the site.
