RDA Oaklands offers a dynamic therapeutic riding program, conducted by RDA coaches and facilitated by a group of dedicated volunteers. Students are welcome at the Centre, with placements available for Community Services or Animal Studies students. Community Services students may participate in this program targeting clients with physical, sensory, behavioural and communication difficulties. Tasks and skills will include learning about coaching and supporting clients in a range of riding activities. Animal Studies students may focus on feeding, grooming and caring for the horses. Tasks may also include sweeping out stalls, and general cleaning of gardens and outdoor areas.

Students will be required to complete an application form which will be supplied by BNLLEN. Please do not contact employer directly.

Skills You Might Learn

This has potential to be a “physical” role, so a level of coordination and dexterity is vital.
Suited for students currently undertaking relevant VET Certificate in Agriculture, Animal Studies, Community services or Administration.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Successful applicants will participate in several tasks as directed by the relevant supervisor. You will start with the basics, including Occupational Health and Safety, and as your skills and competencies develop, you may be given the opportunity to participate in more complex tasks in the field of agriculture, Animal Studies, Community Services (disability) and administration depending on student's course of study. These tasks will vary depending on the workplace activities at the time, and may include any or all of the following;
- Feeding animals and cleaning out animal shelters
- Sweeping and raking pathways
- Working in the gardens
- Observing Education programs
- Community services
- Learning about coaching and supporting young people

Student Requirements

- Solid footwear is required; leather boots preferred, otherwise old trainers (gum boots in case of wet weather.)
- Long pants and long sleeved tops of sturdy material at all times, suitable for outdoor activity.
- Hat and sunscreen must be worn whenever requested by supervisor.
- Student must bring their own lunch
- RDA application form must be completed before placement can begin



Student vaccinations must be up to date according to age and eligibility, according to Government and industry guidelines at the time of placement.

Dress Requirements

Student to provide their own sturdy boots and must wear long sleeved shirt.
Sunscreen and a hat must be worn at supervisors request.

Special Transport Requirements

IMPORTANT: Students must arrange their own transport to and from the site.
