Skills You Might Learn

Students will gain an understanding of and develop the basic skills related to working in the
Children’s Services Industry – Child Care Assistant.

Students will learn to work in a team, communicate effectively in the workplace, be punctual at all times, present at work in appropriate work attire, follow instructions, complete work with an attention to detail and adhere to OH&S requirements at the work place.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified staff - assisting with general tasks and duties relating to safe play activities.

Tasks and duties may include assisting to prepare for daily activities, participating in activities as instructed, safely manual handle and use materials at the work area, clean and maintain the work area as instructed and apply OH&S requirements for the Children’s Services Industry – Child Care Assistant.

Student Requirements

Whilst the student is attending the work experience placement they are expected to:
• Show a genuine interest in the Children’s Services Industry – Child Care Assistant.
• Be neat in appearance, maintain a high level of personal hygiene, willing to observe, listen and learn while working in our team.
• Complying with administrative requirements including policies regarding communicating with parents and guardians.
• Obtain a Volunteer Working with Children's Check, prior to the interview with the host employer,
• Review the businesses web page and learn some background information on the organisation and what it is they do, prior to the interview with the host employer.

Dress Requirements

The student will need to be well presented.
• Flat, non-slip, enclosed footwear.
• Black or navy blue pants.
• Black or navy blue polo shirt.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Student to arrange own transport to and from work.
