Second Chance Animal Rescue
Second Chance Animal Rescue is a non for profit organisation that re homes dogs and cats. You will be working with a small team of dedicated staff and a number of other volunteers who all have a passion for animal welfare. You will learn a wide variety of skills while taking care of dogs and cats.
Skills You Might Learn
Animal handling skills and observation of health / behavior of animals. Understanding of how to minimize spread of disease through proper handling and disinfecting.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Assisting a Second Chance Animal Rescue Volunteer with walking shelter dogs, exercising dogs in the outdoor yard. Cleaning of communal cat rooms, observing and recording animal behaviour. General shelter cleaning including mopping, sweeping, dusting, dishes, laundry ect. General animal husbandry. Creating and providing environmental enrichment to dogs and cats. Cat socialisation and confidence building of shelter cats.
Student Requirements
Basic knowledge and understanding of dog and cat behaviour and interest in dogs and cats. The ability to follow instruction and direction for staff members. Able to use initiative and problem solving skills to complete general tasks. Must be physically able to handle large dogs. Able to work as part of a team as well as autonomously.
Dress Requirements
Closed toe, comfortable shoes are required. No long flowing clothing - skirts and dresses not permitted.

Street parking available - Bus services running alone Hume Highway short walk to Shelter.
