Skills You Might Learn

Accurate use of tape measures, reading and understanding fabrication sheet, its importance and need for accuracy, evaluate timber, basic carpentry skills. Use of power tools will be dependent on age and ability. You will learn how to work well in a team, understand OH&S practices and compliance.

Typical Tasks & Duties

You will learn all aspects of timber to be used for construction from an experienced builder. You will also learn about different types, grades, size of timber, using computerized saws and power tools (depending on age and ability) accurately using a tape measure!
Students will also assist in producing tables and bench tops.

Student Requirements

Students MUST have completed their OHS unit before applying for this opportunity and be studying a VET aligned Building and Construction Course. Students are required to work full employers hours.

Dress Requirements

Dress in appropriate trade clothing, steel cap boots that can get very dirty.
