Skills You Might Learn

Students will have the opportunity to learn skills aligned to the VET Construction (Carpentry) course, such as using and maintaining carpentry hand tools and power tools, building calculations and workplace procedures.
As well as the specific skills listed above, students will have the opportunity to acquire transferable skills including communication, teamwork, problem solving and time management.

Typical Tasks & Duties

You will have the opportunity to put your VET Construction (Carpentry) skills into practice on this iconic project.
Students will start with the basics;
- Workplace safety
- Equipment Maintenance
- General Labouring tasks

Hardworking and committed students may progress to more complex tasks under the guidance of their supervisor, including;
- use of power tools
- assisting with framing
- reading plans, etc

Student Requirements

Best suited to highly motivated VET / VCAL students studying the relevant course in Construction (Carpentry)

Dress Requirements

Student to provide their own steel capped boots.
Students must wear long sleeved shirt and pants.
Other safety equipment can be provided by the employer, however the employer HIGHLY RECOMMENDS that students purchase their own personal safety as this is industry standard. This includes;
- High Vis / fluoro vest
- Safety goggles

Equipment specific gear will be provided by employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Site location is very close to bus lines, with connections to the Eltham / Hurstbridge train line.
Parking also available on site.
No travel form required as all placement hours will be at one location.
