A unique opportunity to develop your Engineering skills while working with the iconic Diamond Valley Miniature Railway, Australia’s oldest miniature railway, which has been entertaining locals for 57 years.

This exciting opportunity offers participants the chance to work hands on with one of the Diamond Valley Railway’s Senior Engineers, fixing and servicing Locomotive engines and carriages.

Skills You Might Learn

Teamwork, communication, problem solving, within the context of planning and landscaping facilities. Improve industry awareness, including health and safety requirements.

Develop skills in alignment with VET Units of Competency.

Typical Tasks & Duties

While on placement students will undertake a range of duties as directed by their supervisor.

Duties may include;
- Engineering
- Refurbishing locomotives and carriages
- Swapping out bogies
- Carriage maintenance

Student Requirements

Open to any VET / VCAL students interested in a placement with the Diamond Valley Railway. Whilst open to any interested students, competencies gained may align with;
- Cert III in Engineering

Dress Requirements

Students should wear sturdy clothes, suitable for physical labour. This must include sturdy shoes / boots (steel cap ideal), and long sleeves and pants. NO open toed shoes.
Various safety equipment will be available for use on site, and all students are expected to follow all training and safety guidelines as directed by supervisors.

Special Transport Requirements

Workplace is close to train and bus access.
Travel Arrangement Form may be required if going offsite to pick up materials – this should be discussed as necessary with your supervisor.
