This is a great opportunity for a student to gain experience and develop practical skills working alongside the Finance/Accounting team at the Mitchell Shire Council (MSC). It is important to bring a can-do attitude, have an interest in business administration and show attention to detail. In return, this business will provide a variety of tasks and take a real interest in your training.
Skills You Might Learn
Learning basic work place skills including workplace etiquette, being part of a productive and inclusive team, organisational structure, types of communication / what does good communication look like, policies and procedures, and accounting principles – all from a local government perspective.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Working with internal customers (staff) to work through a cashflow mapping exercise.
- Understanding how local government is structured and what we do
- Understanding how different type of income is received (rates, grants, user fees and charges, contributions)
- Communicating (email, face to face, phone) with staff members to obtain relevant information for the project
- Using our Financial System and the Microsoft suite for data entry and analysis
Student Requirements
Students should have an interest in business services, be enthusiastic and have a willingness to learn. Students can register their interest in a placement via the Central Ranges LLEN lena@centralrangesllen.org.au. Requests for placement should include your resume, preferred placement dates and identify any relevant VET courses that you are undertaking.

Neat business attire.
Special Transport Requirements
There is a VLine train station in Broadford (approx. 15 min. walk from the Civic Centre).
