Volunteers listen to children read one-on-one on a regular basis at Horsham Primary School- Rasmussen Campus. Skills You Might Learn

Volunteer reading buddies are given a brief one hour induction that covers some basic tips and strategies for reading with a young person. It also covers some issues of confidentiality and contact details for volunteers wanting further support.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Reading Buddies is a program that provides volunteer to listen to students from P-6 read at the child’s school. Volunteers listen to children read one-on-one on a regular basis in a local primary school.

Student Requirements

This position would suit any student, but would particularly suit a Community Services student who only wants to do an hour or two of placement per week.
A basic level of literacy is required.

Dress Requirements

Dress requirements during placements are neat, tidy, suitable and safe for the particular work environment. Discreet jewellery, long hair tied back, closed toe shoes, dress suited to working with children.

Special Transport Requirements

Students will need to find their own transport. Some public buses may be available.
