2017 Hopetoun Opportunity!! Gain some fantastic experience with the opportunity to work with babies through to kinder aged children in HOPETOUN. The staff at the centre strive to create a nurturing, stimulating environment in which children are able to gain the skills and confidence to embark on their journey of self-discovery.

Skills You Might Learn

Students may have the opportunity to develop skills relating to the supervision of young children. Students will also receive insight and knowledge relating to childcare policies and procedures. During this placement, students will gain experience of working within a team
and independently. They will also learn time management communication skills, problem solving, planning, and following guidelines and organisation skills

Typical Tasks & Duties

Assist with activities and programs. Read to children. Assist in maintaining a clean environment. Work with children to create a painting, story or creative item Prepare food if appropriately qualified (ie Food Handlers) Assist in feeding clients. assist with educational play, assist with exercise assist with sleep routine and assist with bottle feeding.
Follow policies and procedures for allergy management. Follow polices in regards of sun safety for clients. Be aware of how to deal problem behaviours. Maintain a hygienic workplace.

Student Requirements

Student must be studying VET Community Services. Students must have a keen interest to work within the industry and a willingness to learn. Students must be willing to follow instructions and work within a team.
Communication skills – Ability to interact with children - Attention to detail - Motivated and organised - Ability to use own initiative - Responsible, supportive and caring attitude - Good people skills - Accommodating to different personalities and abilities.
Students 18 or over will need to apply for a volunteer Working with Children and Police Check.

Dress Requirements

Dress requirements during placements are neat, tidy, suitable and safe for the particular work environment. Discreet jewellery, long hair tied back, closed toe shoes and a sunhat are essential.
