This opportunity is with Corporate Operations at the SHRCC. This department is responsible for the effective operation of Council's motor vehicles and plant and is based at the mechanical workshop. As well as vehicle services and repairs the workshop staff also carry out metal fabrication and maintain drainage pumps throughout Swan Hill. This would be a very interesting placement due to the variety of learning experiences and students with an inclination towards engineering and mechanics should not hesitate to apply.
Skills You Might Learn
Students will have the opportunity to strengthen their employability skills with this placement. Having to operate as part of a team, using workplace communication skills, managing their own time, planning and using initiative and enterprise are all important skills for this opportunity.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Duties and tasks will be around servicing and repairs to plant. Plant items range from vehicles, graders, trucks, tractors and mowers to pumps and chain saws. There will also be welding and metal fabrication tasks at the workshop.
Student Requirements
The student must have completed the OH&S module in WRS VCAL or else have begun the OH&S module in the relevant VET course.
Dress Requirements
Students are to wear neat casual dress appropriate for the work place plus steel capped boots.
Special Transport Requirements
Students will need to organise their own transport to work but there is a town bus service.
