In this placement students will have the chance of hands-on practical experience in a busy bakery environment As well they will be observing and learning from qualified and experienced professionals. The shop owner is very supportive of the SWL program and staff are friendly. Students will be operating in a modern and well equipped workplace. This is a great opportunity to learn about life behind the scenes in a real life bakery.

Skills You Might Learn

The use of basic food preparation techniques and equipment will be a focus. For example observing and assisting with the preparation of ingredients for baking will provide learning experiences. They will also assist with the maintenance and cleaning of baking gear and facilities.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Tasks will be around assisting other employees in their roles and the student will be expected to be an active participant in all workplace practices. They will work as part of a team while under regular supervision. Cleaning up, assisting co-workers and communicating in the workplace are typical tasks and experiences with this placement.

Student Requirements

The students must have completed the OH&S module in WRS VCAL or else have begun the OH&S module in the relevant VET course.

Dress Requirements

Students are to wear neat casual dress appropriate for the work place.

Special Transport Requirements

Transport Students may need to organise their own transport to work but there is a bus service in Swan Hill.
